Cook Off - Days 4 and 5

 Day 4: Sunday, Fall 1 (Apr 9)

Tae: Go-getter Carly starts her first dish of the day five minutes before the Cooking phase starts. But she brings her prep and leaves it on the picnic table. It wouldn’t have counted. I learned recently that I’d been counting dishes incorrectly: only dishes count that are started or finished during the Cooking phase (10a-4pm).

Lingering over breakfast, Cebolla and Chiyo are off to a late start. Meanwhile, Rowan is starting his second dish but then…

Rowan: Just because I’ve been eliminated, I’m not letting anyone else take credit for the dish I started. No, ma’am! I’m leaving this getaway with both my ingredients AND the cutting board! Watcher: 🙄(He's so cute!)

Tae: Rowan’s elimination comes as a huge surprise! Though he’d cooking the most dishes, he’d apparently hadn’t cooked enough Gourmet dishes. Farewell, Rowan!

Honey (to herself): Did I blow Rowan’s chances by trying to sway the judges last night?

Watcher: I’m sure this isn’t the first time Tae felt Sad after an elimination, but I’ve only been paying attention to Tae’s needs, not his moodlets.

Cebolla’s really glad she didn’t get eliminated today. Relieved, she's chatting with Ollie, when Carly takes Cebolla’s mixing bowl and finishes the cake herself.

Cebolla: Sims really show their true colors in a cooking competition like this! First, Chiyo grabs my half-made Scrambles Eggs & Bacon dish while I’m at the restroom. Carly taking my White & Black Cake batter really hurts, since that cake’s a Gourmet recipe! Whatever!

Tae: I’m sure Ollie won’t mind that I’ve added a second incubator. If I can raise three of the collection's uncommon species instead of having to spot them in the wild, Watcher will owe me big time! This time, I'm raising a Jorjan Birdwing Butterfly and a Sphinx Moth.

Today, I realize that I can travel away from the getaway whenever I please. After the Cooking phase, I have a quick dinner then travel to Wanderwood Wilds to finish Pruella’s third quest. By lucky coincidence, the Hothead Rock Geyser erupts while I’m there. What a glorious sight!
Next, I head to Pruella’s nest, expecting to catch the Cryptid Moth. Nope, I need to complete a 4th quest for Pruella first. Time to go back for the Cook-Off's Self Care phase.

Irene: Wow, only two more eliminations left! It’s been fun visiting Gibbit Point again. It's like a vacation--all I'm doing is socializing, cooking, and eating!

Cebolla: I probably gained about 10 pounds here!

Chiyo: I never thought I’d last this long in the Cook-Off!

Honey: Not gonna lie, I won’t miss cleaning from dawn to dusk every day but it’s been fun hanging out with everyone! (I was so sure Rowan would win! Darn Tae’s Watcher and her misleading numbers!)

Cook-Off Day 5 - Monday, Fall 2

Tae: I wake up early to look for the Plumbird Cave Painting. Turns out it's not that far from our getaway venue.

Are you ready for the last full Cooking phase, ladies?

At 10:04 am, Carly has already started her first dish of the day.

Tae: So sad to see you go, Cebolla! (Watcher: Yes, Tae gets a Sad +2 moodlet after every elimination. I wonder if it only happens with his friends?)

Cebolla: It was a blast, Tae, but I’m ready to return to Britechester and teach the Secret Society who’s boss! And I’m not taking one of your cutting boards with me. You're welcome!

Carly: I just left for a second, Chiyo! That’s my gourmet Butternut Gnocchi!

Chiyo: Sorry, Carly! Finders, keepers. Losers, weepers! Oh yes, I want the Foodie trait!

Tae: Carly starts cooking her 2nd dish, then abandons it to finish the one started by Ms. I-dislike-cooking Honey (yes, I catch her cooking twice today when she had no cleaning to do, no biggie).

Chiyo (to herself): I’ll just grab Carly’s half-done dish.

Tae (calls Chiyo over outside): Hey, Chiyo! Show some integrity and create your own dishes!

Tae: Next, Carly leaves both those half-done dishes and starts a third one at a cooking station. I’m not sure she finished it before 4 pm, but I credit her for it (the game will sort it out, anyway). As for Chiyo, she only prepares one Gourmet dish today.

All in all, it was a rather disappointing Cooking phase. Who can blame Carly and Chiyo for being tired of cooking? Anyway, who will be left standing after tomorrow morning's elimination?

On a personal note, my caterpillars both matured today. To complete my collection, I only need to catch 2 moths and 1 butterfly, then craft the Magical Origami Butterfly. If you can’t tell, I’m very eager to be done with the Critter Hunter aspiration.

Watcher’s Notes: *I'd like to thanks both Ellupelluellu and gidget1234 to help us understand how cooking competitions work, or not work. Thanks also to gidget1234 for sharing her Bachelor Challenge after-thoughts, which gave me the idea to run the six-day Cook-Off with only six contestants, instead of the game's default of 8 contestants. However, I changed the starting time to noon to avoid an elimination on Day 1, allowing five eliminations during the remaining five days.
*Rowan’s elimination proves that my record-keeping skills need work. Initially, I was counting dishes started/finished outside the 10am-4pm Cooking phase. Sorry for misleading everyone with my numbers.
*Chiyo in 2nd place shows that cooking Gourmete dishes made a significant difference. She didn’t cook a lot of dishes but always made at least one Gourmet dish every Cooking period. This is probably also the reason that Cebolla outlasted Rowan. I greatly enoyed all the Cooks starting with the same levels but, in hindsight, I wished I’d cheated their starting levels to L6 Homestyle and L2 Gourmet, so they’d have more room to grow.
*If Tae were a contestant, I’d make sure to have him make Prepped Ingredients outside the Cooking period, which would increase his cooking speed when preparing dishes that count toward his score.

Create Your Own Elimination Competition? (this section can be ignored; it's just me rambling)
*When I decided I'd need a "practice competition getaway" before attempting Tae's second (main) getaway, I considered creating my own and fooled around with some ideas. I quickly realized that I'd eenjoy a Cooking Competition plus it would be easier to set up.
*Creating your own competition based on a skill not covered by any of the preset eliminationsis possible but a little more time-consuming. The skill concerned must, however, be listed among the getaway’s list of available activities.
*Apart from the creative, musical, and physical skills appearing in preset competitions, the other 10-level skill activities are: Acting, Comedy, DJing, Fabrication, Flower Arranging, Gemology, Knitting, Mischief, Robotics (kinda dangerous), Gemolody, Swordfighting, Knitting, and Video Gaming. Sorry
*I don’t know if a competition would be shorter for a 5-level skill, but the Select Activity list offers: Archery, Cheerleading, Cross Stitch, Media Production, and Nectar Making.

My Plast-Test of a Handiness Competition
*Schedule title: Cooking Cmpetition preset: renamed to Handiness Competition
*Roles: Amateur Chefs x6, Chef x1, Mean Chef x1, Staff x2 → Contestants x6, Chef x1, Host x1 (replaces Mean Chef), Staff x2
*Schedule itself: Renamed “Cook” phase (10am-4pm) to Handiness.
*Elimination Rule: Player Choice Elimination. To track daily Handiness progress, Tae'd either add all six to his household or briefly play each sim to check their Handiness level.
*Skilling materials: Contestants can use skilling objects without the required materials. I replaced the Cook activity with Woodwork, Build Robots, and Fabricate Objects. On Day 1, the contestants used the woodworking tables as well as the Robotics stations and Fabrication machines just fine.

Anyway, this is just me rambling. Looking forward to everyone's competition getaways!
